Sports Correction

“What does it?” “How is it possible?” These are two of the questions I most answer when a sports patient, recovering from an injury, doesn’t understand why he has to recover for a longer period than any elite athlete s/he’s seen on TV.

The answer to these two questions can either be as simple or as complicated as one wants. My first answer is always a metaphor: It’s not the same when you have a Ferrari to take it to a regular car mechanic than it is to take it to the Ferrari mechanic.

The specialty mechanic has all the specific tools to fix the problem, the latest technologies but most important it’s got the basics: the knowledge of the needs and the way the machine they’re working on, works. That’s exactly what an athlete need, whether professional or amateur.

After 16 years of working with elite athletes this is what we want to offer at Sportcat.

The initial assessment is always done by a doctor specialized in sports medicine. He makes a diagnosis and established the rules to follow.

From here, my job with physical recovery will be to value the best treatment, the fastest and the safest in each stage of recovery.

The return to sport has a few conditions:

  1. The knowledge of the sport the athlete plays with its biomechanical, physical and technical needs.
  2. Knowing the athletes own features.
  3. The knowledge of the injury and its mechanisms of adaptation.

From the area of sports correction at Sportcat we want to offer the following.

A custom treatment, recovery programs adapted to the athlete as it’s not the same to treat a muscle rupture on the IT band for a footballer than it is for a triathlete.

The programs we custom are made seeing the needs in each phase in order to be able to shorten the recovery periods.

In each phase there are different goals:

  1. Decrease swelling and pain
  2. Recover the movement
  3. Recover strength
  4. Readapt biomechanics to each sport
  5. “Return to play”

At Sportcat we try for each of these goals to have the best possible mechanisms in order to be able to achieve them, specific appliances, protocols, patterns and control that will reduce time and improve the effectiveness of the treatment.

Once the treatment is over, the athlete can have, if s/he wants a personal assessment on her/his training patterns.

The athlete can give us the goals for the season and from his fitness level, tested with the best tests (post-injury checkups, effort tests) we can offer him/her training patterns in order to reach any challenges.

Any athlete can use this service whether the athlete has suffered an injury and has recovered or those who’d like some control over their training in a professional way.

The job physical recovery therapist isn’t only recovering since in many cases what we work on during the season is preventing.

That’s why at Sportcat we’d like to be a reference for athletes in any phase of their sports career, whether professional or amateur.
