Dr. Jordi Surós Romagós
Specialist in Sports Medicine and Exercise Medicine, UAB-UB Master in Sports Traumatology
Born in 1976 in Llagostera, Jordi Surós is the third generation of a family dedicated to patient care. His grandfather, Miquel Surós, who was a farmer before the Spanish Civil War, served as a medic on the front and, after the war, became a practitioner, training in disciplines such as acupuncture and massage. His father, Joaquim Surós, studied physiotherapy, sophrology, radiology, natural medicine, acupuncture, and osteopathy, and built Spain’s first medical application laser in 1980. Curious by nature, he continued inventing electrotherapy devices, a technology that evolved with him, to the point that many devices developed internationally are his inventions and those of his engineering team.
In this family environment, Jordi Surós soon developed an interest in continuing the legacy. He trained at the Faculty of Medicine in Lleida and undertook internships at Vrige University Hospital in Amsterdam and the Guttman Institute of Neurorehabilitation. His residency (MIR) at the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona allowed him to pursue his favorite specialty: exercise and sports medicine. At the same time, he trained as an osteopath under Dr. Hernan Silvan from the Complutense University of Madrid, and studied acupuncture, reflexology, and sophrology, staying true to his principle of keeping an open mind and integrating the best of each health discipline. He also completed a Master’s in Sports Traumatology (inter-university master from the University of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona).
He worked as an adjunct trauma emergency physician for seven years at the Selva regional hospital and, as a sports medicine specialist, has collaborated with CAR Sant Cugat, RCD Espanyol, FC Barcelona, the Spanish Basketball Federation (ACB), Clio Renault Team Sweden, and the Catalan Boxing Federation, among others.
In 2008, he realized one of his dreams: to unite the best specialists in a single center and integrate a global vision of sports medicine. This led to the creation of Sportcat, which quickly became a reference center in the Girona region.
In May 2012, Dr. Surós assumed the medical responsibility for Girona FC’s first team, which was at risk of direct relegation and had several injured players. Leading the Sportcat team, Surós accelerated the recovery of key players and optimized the physical condition of the entire squad, resulting in a complete turnaround: the team not only avoided relegation but finished in the mid-table. The following season also brought excellent results: Girona FC became the revelation team of the first half of the Segunda A season, competing from day one for promotion to La Liga. This collaboration lasted until December 2012, when due to scheduling conflicts, Dr. Surós decided to leave the team and focus solely on sporadic rehabilitation of complex injuries of first-team players at Sportcat’s facilities.
